Too many Americans are uninsured. The cost of health care is unsustainable for families, business and government budgets. We must enact legislation that makes health care more affordable and accessible for all Americans.
We can do this with several straightforward reform measures:
- Build on what works, without inserting government bureaucracy in between you and your doctor.
- Extending the “above the line” income tax deduction on premiums to cover citizens who do not have employer-provide coverage and must purchase their own coverage.
- Allow new pooling mechanisms so small businesses; States, associations and other organizations can purchase more affordable insurance.
- We must make sure Americans have the flexibility to maintain their coverage regardless of job change or loss.
- Insurance companies should be prohibited from denying coverage to individuals based on pre-existing conditions or past illnesses.
- Comprehensive medical liability reform.
- Focusing on preventive medicine.
- Simplify the existing bureaucracy to increase transparency and reduce the waste, fraud and abuse of our current Medicaid and Medicare system.
Congressman Davis believes we must find alternative energy solutions, lower gas prices, and invest in all forms of energy to create jobs here in Kentucky.
During the last few years we have seen how gas prices can widely fluctuate. This causes concern amongst consumers and problems with the family budget. High gas prices strike Kentuckians at a time when they can afford it least. A slowing economy, housing crunch, and higher costs of living are forcing hard-working families to make tough decisions and dig deeper into their pockets in order to fill their gas tanks. Now Democrats in Congress are calling for a 50-cent gas tax hike on every motorist and trucker in American.
Congressman Davis believes we need to bring down the price at the pump and he believes we can do so by:
- Drilling off America’s coasts and the ANWR
- Build more refineries throughout the United States
- Find ways to use America’s coal more cleanly and efficiently
- Secure safe nuclear options
The effects of illegal immigration can be seen in communities across America, taking a heavy toll on our schools, hospitals, and law enforcement community. Now Democrats in Congress are working to expand eligibility for government programs and removing protections to ensure benefits are not received by illegal immigrants.
Congressman Davis is committed to enforcing our nation’s immigration laws:
- No amnesty or taxpayer-funded benefits for illegal immigrants, including welfare and Social Security
- Build the fence to secure America’s southern border and increase the number of border patrol agents
- Prohibiting federal funding for cities that provide sanctuary for violent criminal aliens
- Make English our national language
The consequences of failure in Iraq and Afghanistan are enormous for our national security, for the Middle East, and for the entire world. The progress made to date is significant, but reversible. More progress needs to be made on the political front to end the War on Terror, and bring America’s troops home safely.
Congressman Davis stands strongly behind America’s military men and women both at home and abroad in the War on Terror:
- Listen to the professional assessment of America’s military leaders, no politicians like “General Pelosi”, to build on hard-won security gains and bring our troops home
- Increase the number of U.S. Troops in Afghanistan Encourage our NATO partners and other allies to shoulder some of the burden for Afghanistan’s security and reconstruction
- Continue to meet established benchmarks of progress in Iraq
Congressman Davis is committed to fighting to protect Kentucky taxpayers, stop future tax increases, and preserve needed tax cuts.
Kentuckians faced a harsh truth this past April 15th as Democrats jeopardized tax refunds for millions of Americans by delaying action to save middle-class families from the punitive Alternative Minimum Tax. Now Democrats have passed a record $683 billion tax increase on workers, parents, married couples, seniors, small businesses, and farmers.
Congressman Davis wants to protect Kentucky taxpayers by:
- Permanently ending the Death Tax
- Repealing the Alternative Minimum Tax
- Encouraging working families to save more by establishing tax-exempt individual development accounts
- Making the tax rates for capital gains and dividends permanent
- Preventing future tax increases
